Private Clubs of Midtown Manhattan

With Matt Postal

[Virtual tour] Beyond 43rd and 44th Streets, midtown has many architecturally distinctive clubhouses to discover. Historian Matt Postal discusses the history of these mainly-male associations through both extant and sometimes forgotten examples, from the arrival of the Harmonie Club in the 1860s to construction of The Brook in 1925. We’ll peek inside buildings designed by such prominent firms as Cass Gilbert, McKim Mead & White, and York & Sawyer, as well as lesser-known high-rise clubhouses commissioned by the New York, Engineers, Chemists, and Republican clubs.
