The Mansions of the St. Mark’s District, Brooklyn

Fine Mansions and Elegant Townhouses of the Past

With Suzanne Spellen & Morgan Munsey

By the turn of the 20th century, the St. Mark’s District was one of Brooklyn’s most exclusive neighborhoods. At the center of the Crown Heights North Historic District, today this area is still dotted with fine mansions and elegant townhouses. St. Mark’s Avenue, between Rogers and Kingston Avenues was a Who’s Who of Brooklyn’s wealthy elite. Some, like Nathan Straus of Abraham & Straus, are still well-known, while others, such as Clarence Seamans and Thomas Murray, have disappeared into history. Join Suzanne Spellen and Morgan Munsey on a virtual tour of the St. Mark’s District. We’ll look at the history, the people, the architecture, and a present day look at this former “Gold Coast.”
