The New Bronx

With Alexandra Maruri

[In-Person Tour] The phrase “The New Bronx” was coined by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. during his 2014 state of the borough speech. On this tour with Bronx native Alexandra Maruri, we will review The New Bronx versus The Old Bronx. During Covid-19 all construction projects continued in New York. We will examine the pros and cons, the affordability and opportunities for the local community. Many land-use rule changes approved since 2009 enabled development to expand in The Bronx, allowing developers to build bigger. These changes by developers and investors (as in Williamsburg and Dumbo) have been daunting for the local residents and businesses. Let’s explore some of the new buildings coming up in the South Bronx and the potential changes to the landscape.

In-person tours are limited to 20 attendees and are held outdoors.  Walking tours bring individuals into close proximity with each other, we therefore ask that all tour goers wear masks during the tours, regardless of vaccination status.  Your tour guide and your fellow tour participants will thank you for your cooperation.  Should the tours happen to venture indoors, many places require masks and/or proof of vaccination, so please be prepared to have both with you.

MAS Walking Tours last approximately 2 hours. Meeting location is provided with registration.
