Transforming the Elevated: Astoria

With MTA Arts & Design

With Yaling Chen, Deputy Director MTA Arts & Design

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) celebrates new artwork installations on the (N)(W) Line in Astoria, Queens. During the tour, we will visit four newly improved stations featuring immersive laminated glass artworks and see new design and enhanced customer service elements at the elevated stations. Each station features public artwork by a contemporary artist commissioned by MTA Arts & Design. We will view artwork by Sarah Morris at 39 Av station, Maureen McQuillan at 36 Av station, Diane Carr at Broadway station, and followed by Stephen Westfall at 30 Av station. Visit these recently opened stations and hear firsthand from MTA Arts & Design about commissioning and installing site-specific artworks created for the variety of communities that make up New York City.
