Upper East Side Art Galleries

What's New in the Art World

With Sylvia Laudien-Meo

The neighborhood in the upper 70s, along Madison Avenue, has long been the finest address for well established, traditional art galleries, but in the past few years the atmosphere has been shifting. The Met took over the Marcel Breuer building (formerly the Whitney Museum of American Art) for its modern and contemporary exhibitions, and nearby galleries have been showing increasingly more contemporary works. Some, housed in elegant mansions, with Gagosian Gallery being the major presence, accompanied by Mnuchin, Aquavella, Skarstedt and many more, all putting on impressive, well curated shows. Art historian Sylvia Laudien-Meo leads this tour, which is limited to 20 persons.
