Young FRIENDS Architecture Sketch Walk: Carl Schurz Park and Environs

Janes Walk

Led By Ronda Wist AND Heidi Carey, Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts

Join FRIENDS of the UES for an architectural sketching walk! Families and kids ages 7+ are invited to take a stroll through the leafy green oasis of Carl Schurz Park, nestled along the East River. Led by former Executive Director of the Landmarks Preservation Commission Ronda Wist, and FRIENDS’ Director of Education Heidi Carey, this easy family-friendly walk focuses on the history of Carl Schurz Park, designed originally by Calvert Vaux, and surrounding Yorkville, including Gracie Mansion. Teaching children to tune into buildings around them, this walk provides a sample of the Young FRIENDS curriculum taught in neighborhood schools since 1995. Ends at the charming Queen Anne style townhouses of Henderson Place, one of New York City’s smallest historic districts.

Bring your own sketch pad and pencils!
