Show Your Love for NYC and Lead a Jane’s Walk This Year!

Submissions are now open for this year's Jane's Walk NYC festival

February 14, 2025

Get ready to show your ❤ for New York City during the 2025 Jane’s Walk NYC festival: Friday, May 2nd through Sunday, May 4th!

New Yorkers can submit walks for the Jane’s Walk NYC 2025 festival to be held during the first weekend of May. Anyone can submit and lead a Jane’s Walk in any New York City neighborhood across all five boroughs, and submissions will be open from February 14 until March 31. The festival roster with a list of all the walks will be released in early-April.

Jane’s Walk is an annual global festival celebrating urban life and culture. Jane’s Walk NYC 2025, hosted by MAS, is the largest chapter of the festival anywhere in the world. It will take place during the weekend of May 2-4 across New York City. MAS staff organize a fleet of volunteer walk leaders, to create 200+ in-person, virtual, and on-demand walks with over 5,000 participants. All Jane’s Walk NYC events are free and open to the public.

“Jane’s Walk NYC is a testament to the power of everyday New Yorkers to tell the stories of their neighborhoods,” said Keri Butler, Interim President of the Municipal Art Society of New York. “Whether you’re passionate about history, culture, architecture, or art, Jane’s Walk is an opportunity to share what makes your community unique. We invite all New Yorkers to lead a walk and participate in this citywide celebration of urban life.”

“If you love New York, you can lead a Jane’s Walk,” said Jess Joseph, Jane’s Walk leader, NYC tour guide, and co-founder of Gals About Town. “Jane’s Walk is a great way to build community, get to know your neighbors, and have conversations about the shared appreciation of our communities and rich cultural heritage.”

All Jane’s Walks are volunteer-led and submitted by the very New Yorkers who make up our city’s vibrant communities. The varied walks feature all boroughs, dozens of neighborhoods, and diverse topics. Some of last year’s eclectic walk highlights include:

● Pest Propaganda: An Ode to the Rat and the Pigeon
● Smelling Bushwick
● Jane’s Walk Bike Ride on the Hutchinson River Greenway
● Queen Anne Architecture in Richmond Hill, NY
● A Little Local Tottenville Trot

During Jane’s Walk NYC weekend, the simple act of exploring the city is enhanced with personal observations, local history, and civic engagement. Jane’s Walk NYC encourages people to share stories about their neighborhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and connect with visitors and neighbors alike.

MAS will host walk leader information sessions in March to help anyone interested in leading a walk. The info sessions will include background on the Jane’s Walk NYC festival, an overview of the submission process, examples of walks, resources for researching your walk topic, and brainstorming activities for developing walk ideas. RSVP for the in-person session > and RSVP for the virtual session >

Jane’s Walk NYC is paid for in part by Swig Equities. Jane’s Walk NYC is also provided with annual organizational support from the New York Public Library, Urban Archive, and other incredible local cultural institutions and organizations. If an organization would like to support Jane’s Walk NYC, please email janeswalknyc@mas.org.

There will be much more to come! The full roster of walks will be announced in mid-April. We can’t wait to celebrate the city we call home this May!

With lots of love for New York City,
