Culture is communal and emotional; it is also constantly in flux. Archives, which act as a record of this change and evolution, can thus help communities preserve and share both the tangible and intangible forms of their heritage with future generations. What are some of the challenges and joys of preserving cultural heritage at such a specific and local level?
Please join us on Thursday, November 14 at Interference Archive from 5:30-7:00 PM for an Enduring Culture Happy Hour where we will delve in to discuss. Drinks and food will be provided.
Interference Archive is a community-supported archive exploring the relationship between cultural production and social movements. Their volunteers manage an open stacks collection, study center, and public programming including exhibitions, publications, workshops, talks, and screenings. At this happy hour, Interference Archive will share the many kinds of objects they catalogue from social movements and how they bring together community members to protect them.
This event is only open to Livable Neighborhoods Program members. Depending on capacity, registration will open to the public later this month.
This event is part of MAS’ Enduring Culture Initiative, which aims to develop an expanded and multivocal historic preservation vision for New York City, where intangible heritage and places that contribute to a neighborhood’s history and culture are protected and celebrated.
