LGBT Historic Sites in the East Village on the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots

Janes Walk

Led By Laurence Frommer, Lower East Side Preservation Initiative and Stonewall 50 Consortium, Save Chelsea; Lower East Side Preservation Initiative

The Lower East Side Preservation Initiative ( a member of the Stonewall 50 Consortium) offers a special tour in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. While most people are aware of the West Village as a major center of LGBT life, the East Village has played an important role. From the “fairy bars” under the Third Ave El on the Bowery in the 1890’s to iconoclastic Beat writers and artists of the 1950’s and 60’s to the riotous LGBT club scene of the 80’s that continues to this day. Join LESPI and guide Laurence Frommer as we retrace over a century of heritage.
