MASterworks Explorations: Powerhouse Arts

2023 Winner for Best New Urban Amenity

This fall, MAS is celebrating design excellence in New York City with our 2023 MASterworks Awards! We have curated a selection of in person explorations and online in-conversations with this year’s honored projects.

On Monday, October 23rd from 11-12:30 PM, join us for an exploration of Powerhouse Arts, 2023 MASterworks Winner for Best New Urban Amenity. Team members from Powerhouse Arts and the project’s design team, PBDW Architects and Herzog & de Meuron, will lead a celebratory exploration of the space. Before transforming in a community hub for artistic engagement and expression, the facility was a power station for the BRT train system. As one of the last historic structures on the nearby canal, Powerhouse retains and fosters ongoing manufacturing and artistic activity in Gowanus.

Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. Housed in a purpose-built facility in Brooklyn, the organization hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the wellbeing of artists and the communities to which they belong.
