Queens Then & Now

With Bob Singleton

[Virtual tour] Today, Queens is undergoing a new phase of development. It would be wise for us to draw upon some hints from the past where the focus was on constructing neighborhoods and buildings with a sense of community. It was a place where friends could cross paths and meet each other. Each area had a sense of place with streets that represented democratic ideals of openness, accessibility, and civic discourse. This was the thinking behind the borough’s development and initial success. This virtual tour with Bob Singleton, Executive Director of Greater Astoria Historical Society, will take this a step further, to contrast those ideals and ideas of yesterday with how they stood the test of time, and what message they may have to guide future development.
