Joint Letter from Preservation Groups on New LPC Chair

Letter to Mayor about choosing new Landmarks Preservation Commission chair

April 25, 2018

Hon. Bill de Blasio
Mayor
City Hall, NY 10007

Dear Mayor De Blasio:

Preservation plays an important role in the city’s economy, tourism, and quality of life. Historic districts are by and large dense, diverse and popular with residents. New York has progressed by keeping a balance between preservation and growth. The Chair of the Landmarks Preservation Commission is key to protecting the city’s architectural and cultural legacy and ensuring that proposals before the Commission and its staff are handled fairly and efficiently.

As you decide on the next Chair, we encourage you to consider candidates with a strong preservation background and a demonstrated track record of protecting our shared history. Thank you for your attention and consideration.

Sincerely,
