“Congratulations to this year’s MASterworks Awards winners! Each of these remarkable projects exemplifies the innovation, resilience, and creativity that make New York City’s public realm truly exceptional,” said Elizabeth Goldstein, President of the Municipal Art Society of New York. “From the transformation of our urban landscapes to the restoration and adaptive reuse of historic spaces, these projects not only enhance our city’s built environment but also deepen our connection to the diverse communities that make New York such a beautiful and exciting place to live. At MAS, we are thrilled to honor the brilliance of these designs and celebrate the profound impact they will have on the city’s future.”

The winning architectural projects for the 2024 MASterworks Award are located within the five boroughs of New York City and were completed during calendar year 2023.

Established in 2001, the MASterworks Awards pay tribute to the multiple projects scattered around New York City that were completed in the previous year that exemplify excellence in architecture and urban design. The winners were selected by an esteemed jury of architects, designers, preservationists, scholars, and critics. This year’s jury includes:

  • Julia Gamolina, Founder and Editor in Chief, MadameArchitect.org
  • Susan Hinkson-Carling, AIA, LLM, MAS Board of Directors and Principal, Capalino Ventures, LLC
  • Walter Rodriguez Meyer, PLA, Principal, Local Office Landscape and Urban Design
  • Roberta Washington, FAIA, Principal, Roberta Washington Architects PC

To celebrate these contributions to the public realm, throughout October, as a part of Archtober, MAS will host a program series of in-person explorations and virtual conversations to explore the winning projects. These events will be presented in collaboration with the winning project teams. Learn more about the events and RSVP >

An in-person awards ceremony to recognize all winning project teams will be held in the fall. Tickets for the awards ceremony will go on sale in October.

ABOUT MAS

The Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) that’s dedicated 130 years of advocacy for the city of New York and New Yorkers, aids in raising the voices of the people into actual conversations that affect the lives within the city. Our organization highlights what exactly is vital for New York when it comes to its public spaces, streetscapes and buildings. This provides us with a sustainable environment to walk and explore. We prioritize planning, policy and preservation and with this we were able to demonstrate that through helping with creating the pedestrian traffic island that provided safety for the people throughout Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd Street in 1901. We advocated for a citywide passenger transportation plan and subway system in 1903 all the way to standing up for public housing. Our mission has stayed intact when it comes to lending a hand for New Yorkers and being the change we want to see.
