With Matt Postal

Trace the development of this lively commercial area and the ways in which the 1916 zoning resolution shaped its character. We’ll view landmark department stores and distinctive set-back loft buildings—fireproof factory and show room structures that mainly produced apparel. In addition, the fading fur district will be discussed, including the SJM Building designed by Cass Gilbert and the mid-20th century modern campus of the Fashion Institute of Technology, where thousands continue to train for work in this important industry each year.
