Treasures in the Trash (Group 1)

SOLD OUT

More than three decades ago, one sanitation worker named Nelson Molina started searching for treasures among the trash. Now a collection numbering more than 40,000 objects and ephemera, the Treasures in the Trash collection includes everything from cherished century-old framed family portraits and autographed baseballs to chipped Pez dispensers and an army of Furbies. The vast array of items is a stunning visual reminder of what we choose to value as a society and the scale of what we discard each day.

Additional notes:

  • This limited-access event is available exclusively to active MAS members.
  • The collection is housed on the 2nd floor of a garage; the stairs are steep and there is no elevator available.
  • In the event of snow, the tours will be rescheduled.
  • Proceeds will be shared with The Foundation for New York’s Strongest, DSNY’s foundation with the mission of supporting NYC’s ambitious waste management goals and establishing a permanent space for a future NYC Sanitation museum.

This event is sold out.
